Android 16 is expected to be stable for some time in Q2 this year, and one of its main attractions, which we cannot wait to use, have to move to Live activities of Google’s Apple.
Live updates, as the Google is calling the feature, is a dynamic notification system that highlights important moving activities – for example, your food order distribution status, navigation, timer and akin. The new class of information, to an extent, live in Android 16 beta, but not their entire extent.

Once widely available, live updates will mainly take place on your lock screen, which is different from other information on your device – Samsung and OnePlus now like repeated implementation of repeated and live alerts. Live updates are made on a new type of ‘progress-focused’ notification system, and as the name suggests, these information will have a dynamic bar that moves as your cab/food order, its Gets closer to the destination.
At the moment, with Android 16 Beta 2, live updated surface as standard notifications, so we have not really seen what these progress-focused information will look. However, now it changes.
See progress
Taking advantage of a demo app created by developer Victor Michelive, Mishhal Rahman was capable of receiving live updates working with all his bells and whistles and shared what the feature would be seen in the Android Authority report.
Exposing a food delivery order, the live update notification clearly indicates the position of the order – “The order is being cooked,” and “the order is cooked, will be distributed soon,” for example. Pragati strip is divided into two, the progress bar is once the order of food on your way after going to the second half. The tiny details include a cooking pot icon on the progress strip when your order is being cooked, while a bike icon indicates when the order/delivery driver is at step.
Live update will appear above all other information in the status bar, but below music control. On the lock screen, these progress-centered notifications will be the only ones that do not collapse in the compact scene of Android 16.
Somewhere else, Rahman also indicated that live updates would be by default for apps that use ongoing notifications. However, users will have the option to close them for a personal app with “show live information” togle, as seen in the screenshot below.
