According to a recent report by Business Insider, Google is now putting some specific employees- mostly from it Aye Division deepmind- on tree leaves. Yes, you read that right! The idea is that it will prevent them from joining Google’s contestants.

These employees are closed in contracts that prevent them from working elsewhere for months – even up to one year. It is called the “noncampat agreement”, and is being used as a strategic step to prevent rival companies from reaching top AI talent.
In some cases, employees are called “Garden Leave”, especially in the UK. They are still on parole, but they are not allowed to contribute to any project – not even within Google. During this time, their only job is to sit and do not work for anyone else.
Calling it out, AI VP of Microsoft (and before Lampmind Director) Nando de Freetas posted on social media: “Do not sign these contracts. No American corporation should have so much power, especially in Europe. It is an abuse of power.”
