    An Odisha -born man, who got married in May 2003, tolerated mental and emotional misconduct from his wife for 15 years before the High Court divorced. His wife allegedly harassed him and often threatened suicide, which took a serious toll on his mental health. Things became so bad that he resigned from his job in Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), citing his misuse in his resignation email.     According to reports, while this man got married in 2003, after that, he soon started trouble in his marriage. Reason: He alleged that his wife wanted him to enroll him the only nomination of his license policy, and also wanted his home ownership in Bhubaneswar, where his elderly parents lived.     Despite all this, when the man filed for divorce in 2009, the wife claimed that she still wanted to live with her and had filed for the restoration of conjugation rights. Nevertheless, he filed 45 police complaints (FIRs) against him.

    However, the issues crop started soon after getting married. The husband alleged that his wife pressured him to cut relations with his parents, and also demanded control over his finance, causing quarrels between them.
    Given his frequent arguments, his elders advised him to go to his Bhubaneswar’s house. However, the violent behavior of the woman continued. So much so that once the husband was attacked so badly that he received injuries to his nose and face- his neighbors shared.
    – On November 26, 2006, while he was working in Dallas, his wife allegedly hit her with a speaker from her music system, leaving her with a skull injury. Hospital records of Parkland Health and Hospital System confirmed that he was admitted to the emergency ward for treatment after the attack.
    – In December 2008, wife, her parents and some goons allegedly arrived at her in-laws’ village house and threatened them. The woman caught her mother -in -law from her neck and tried to choke her. When his father -in -law tried to save his wife, he clashed with the woman and her companions.
    – A year later, on November 11, 2009, the wife returned to her in -laws’ house with her sister. And a few days later, he put his in -laws out of the house, which forced him to spend the night on the streets. The police intervened when the elderly couple filed a police report against him.
    – During this time, the woman filed more than 45 first first against her husband. Shortly thereafter, the person filed for divorce in Cuttack Family Court in 2009.
    Cuttack Family Court divorced, but with alimony

    However, the wife still wanted to continue marriage and filed an appeal in the Odisha High Court. He said that he has been denied his marital rights. But hearing his case, the Odisha High Court admitted that the woman’s frequent danger was a form of emotional blackmail for the man and so it agreed to the family’s court’s decision.
    The High Court said in its final judgment, “The appellant’s (wife’s) works, collectively seen, fulfilling the threshold of mental cruelty, defined under Section 13 (1) (IA) of the Hindu Marriage Act. Therefore, the court said that it is not any weakness for the court. Pain, and the defendant (husband) is entitled to peace and emotional relief that can be found only in this broken bonding.”
    HC said, “Permanent alimony of INR 63,00,000 provided by Judge, Family Court, Cuttack is not to be intervened. The amount tries to create a balance between providing the appellant with appropriate financial security and ensures that the defendant is not unknowingly cumbersome, which is not cumbersome, to maintain principles of impartiality.”
