An animal sanctuary has established a pet food bank to help people struggling with rising costs.
Near Strawud, Tekels Animal Rescue at Whitminster, Starbucks will give pet food, behavior and advice to needy people on the third Thursday of every month at Starbucks.
Lucy Henderson said Lucy Henderson of Tekles said, “The cost of food and insurance is ever going above hundreds of pounds. If you are at the same income house, it is a lot for some people.”
It comes in the form of National Animal Charity Blue Cross, saying that it has seen an increase in pets left in the box, or tied with notes to the owners who cannot tolerate them to keep them.
“We wanted to try something to help these families,” said Ms. Henderson.
“The goal is that we keep dogs in homes with their families. We do not want to recur animals who have families that love them.”
He said that there were “all types of food” in the charity, adding: “If you have a fierce dog or a cat, we will try to help.”
No stigma
Blue Cross says that it works with regular food banks to encourage people to donate food for pets as well as humans.
Diane James from Blue Cross said, “There is no stigma to ask for help to feed a pet.”
“It is really important that your pet does not suffer, so contact us or other charitables what we can help.
“We have seen that the boxes are being left with notes, beautifully placed dogs are left tied with notes. Before you reach that position, please just contact us.”
