The first Geekbench score for Apple’s new iPhone 16E has surfaced, which shows the performance impact of Apple’s decision that the standard iPhone 16 models to use a bind version of the A18 chip with a lower GPU core than the standard iPhone 16 model.
Geekbench 6 metal benchmarks spotted according to the results MysmartpriceThe iPhone 16E scored 24,188 marks in graphics tests, which is about 15% lower than more expensive iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. This performance difference is likely to be due to the use of the chip-bind A18 chip of Apple. Chip bining is a common industry practice where chips with disabled or non-functional components are renovated for lower level products. This approach helps manufacturers to maximize the yield and reduce waste by offering products at various price points.
In this case, the A18 chip in the iPhone 16E has a 4-core GPU configuration, compared to the 5-core GPU found in standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. However, as the Gekbench test shows, the 6-core CPU count remains unchanged.
Despite reducing the GPU performance, the iPhone 16E is expected to maintain a strong overall performance, especially for the initial price point of its $ 599. Geekbench test also confirms our previous discovery that the iPhone 16E has 8GB RAM, which is a minimum requirement of Apple Intelligence. The tested device was running iOS 18.3.1.
Of course, further benchmark results and real -world testing will require to fully assess the impact of the GPU core count on everyday tasks and gaming performances. Apple will accept pre-order for the iPhone 16E starting at 5 am today, and this device will be launched in 59 countries and regions on Friday, February 28.
