Efforts have been continued to reduce the spread of Kovid -19 in Haiti. Our team of community health workers raises awareness about precautions. We have many handwashing stations and distribute cleanliness kits to the community.
The results are hearty. Community Health Medical Director Dr. Headwig Pierre says he has observed more people wearing masks and social deformities than other parts of the country. “When I recently visited our health center in the mountains in Tien, I was encouraged to see every patient wearing a mask.”
To date, the hospital has treated 87 patients who have conducted a positive test for Covid-19. Community health centers have seen 140 suspects. Fortunately, these numbers are less than that of being estimated at the beginning of the epidemic, but still more work remains to be done.
One of the challenges we are actively working against is a Kovid -19 stigma in Haiti. People who contracted the virus are upset. From fear, they hide their symptoms and hesitate in search of medical care.
But thanks to collaboration with community leaders, we are progressing on reducing the stigma. The messages we are sharing is this: Right now we need solidarity and sympathy for all those infected by the virus. Work responsibly, respecting public health guidelines, to avoid spreading further.
As we continue to fight Kovid -19 in Haiti, we are thinking about you all. This virus does not know any limit. We hope that you and your family will be well and hopeful in these challenging times.
