The driver of an oil tanker was killed, while more than 40 others were hurt when the vehicle exploded after catching a fire in Balochistan’s Noshki district on Monday, confirmed Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amjad Hussain.
The deputy commissioner said 26 seriously injured persons were transferred to Quetta through an air ambulance provided by Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti.
According to the police, welding was being done on a truck filled with oil parked at a depot in Noshki when he suddenly caught fire. In the bid to prevent a large disaster, the truck driver fired the burning vehicle out of the terminal in an open ground.
However, the driver died due to his burnt injuries on the spot.
Meanwhile, the oil tanker, which had turned into a fireball, exploded, injured more than 40 people – a DSP and three other police personnel who were present there to take the citizens away from the scene.
A fire tender was also damaged in the incident.
Quoting the report, a spokesman for the provincial government said that more than 30 people maintained injuries in the tragic incident in Noski.
The spokesman said, “The intense blast also damaged the fire brigade vehicle.” He further said that emergency situation was declared in hospitals in Quetta to facilitate the injured.
Calling the incident “tragic”, the spokesperson said investigation was going on to determine the cause of the fire.
