“It was not a formal conversation that we had as a Ballab,” Dosers’ manager Dave Roberts said before the exhibition game against Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. “This is certainly a great honor to receive an invitation for the White House. It allows us to celebrate our 2024 championship. For my understanding, every world chain champion gets this honor, so it is a great honor for all of us.”
The visit to the Dojers White House is particularly notable in view of the controversy around Jackie Robinson’s military service. The story was temporarily removed from the website of the Defense Department as part of the effort to purify references of inclusion through diversity, equity and “digital content refreshing” by President Donald Trump last week.
Robinson served as a second lieutenant in the US Army during World War II, then broke the color barrier of Major League baseball when he made his debut in 1947 for Brooklyn Dozers. A statue in his honor graces the center-area plaza of the dose stadium. Although it does not give any reference to DEI, the story on Robinson’s service was one of the recent health websites scrubbing from government websites.
Roberts, who often talked about the importance of major league teams deploying more diverse coaching and front office staff, said he was unaware of what he happened to Robinson’s story. After being informed by a reporter, he said: “I think I am happy that the page has gone back. I have a strong opinion and all that stuff, but it’s another scram.”
In 2019, near the end of Trump’s first chairmanship, Roberts indicated as part of the Los Angeles Times profile that he would not visit the White House if the Dojers hoisted the World Series Trophy at the end of that year. Reminded that Tuesday, Roberts smiled and said, “Did I?”
“I’m leaving,” he said. “I respect the situation. It is the highest office of our country, of course in the world, therefore, ready for it.”
Dozers visited the White House under Biden’s presidential post on a championship to win a championship at the end of the Kovid -19 -Shorted 2020 season. Four years later, on 30 October, 2024, he won his first full season title by defeating New York Yankis in Game 5 of the World Series since 1988.
Trump was elected President after about a week. About two months later, he quarreled with local politicians and the California government. Gavin Newsom destroyed parts of LA, which at one point threatened to withdraw federal aid on disagreement about water management of the region. The Trump administration eventually passed an executive order with the aim of addressing water scarcity and regulatory obstacles obstructing disaster response efforts in Southern California.
Dozers Chairman Mark Walter and Bhag-Malik Arvin “Magic” Johnson were chosen by Newsom, leading an initiative to support the recovery and reconstruction of wildfire in LA, leading an initiative to fund the philanthropic effort, up to $ 100 million. Johnson has spoken openly against Trump in recent years, but Dosters through their X account said on Tuesday that they are “ready to visit the White House and celebrate our title.”
