Traditional knowledge tells us that professional athletes perform best in front of a house crowd.

The Great Britain’s Olympic team won a record medal in London 2012 and England’s Shers won the Euro in Vambali in 2022, 56 years later the men’s national football team won the World Cup at home.

Does the same home benefit apply in Esports?

BBC Newsbeat asked four contestants to find out this in the Rocket League Championship series earlier this week in Birmingham.

Players compete in popular online games by driving cars around an arena, trying to push an oversized ball into the target of the opposing team.

The event brings together 16 of the world’s top teams to compete for a prize pot of over £ 270,000 ($ 350,000).

Finele now lives and plays in Saudi Arabia, but grew up in Manchester

While millions of people watch online eSports, most fans say that there is nothing like being in the arena with the roar of the crowd.

Manchester’s 20 -year -old Phenelle says that this is one of the reasons that UK incidents stand out in the international calendar.

“I think Britain’s crowd is always the best,” he says, explaining that they are more creative in their chanting, and make more noise than American audiences.

Finelle feels that another game may be down to our affection.

“Football is included in the UK culture,” they say.

And, similar to real -life games, crowds are not afraid of playing favorite.

“I think the crowd will always follow him as an English player,” he says.

Above her, his parents will also come together to see.

“It’s going to be a good weekend,” they say.

Joey, with Workington, agrees that the crowd behind you may help, but it does not seem that it changes overall.

He agrees with Finale that Britain’s crows are loud and vibrant, but say he usually blocks it the most.

ESPORTS players compete with over-ear headphones to ensure that they receive immersive surround sound from the game, and can listen to their teammates with their teammates.

Who says, “I just try and take out the crowd and take out the crowd.

Which, who tells the newsbeat that he lives in North -Western England “in the middle of” no ” – says some leading places where events occur, which removes some” benefits of the house “.

Jack has won thousands of pounds playing competitive rocket league

21 -year -old Jack of Derby has to travel a short journey only for the weekend tournament.

But some of the largest rocket league competitions are held in the US or South America – which means a long race to see the players.

“You’re going to be more energetic directly,” says Jack when you are close to the house.

“Perhaps other teams are working with Jet Lag,” they say.

Esport, including the rocket league, depends on lightening-fast reflex and quick thinking, not something you want to do if you are tired.

“If you are sleeping badly it can actually play with you,” Jack says.

“You can’t see the screen properly, your eyes cannot react properly.

“The shortest response time can make a big difference to win or lose.”

Jack says that long -range travel and jet lag – where your body clock needs time to adjust to a new time area – problems have arisen when they tried to rest for foreign competitions.

“It certainly seems different when you’re playing in the UK,” they say.

Archie ‘Archie’ Pickthall – Team Geekay

Another advantage of playing close to the house is the support of friends and family.

It is not always possible for the contestants to travel further with their relatives.

Archie says that he is eager to make his brother and father happy too.

“Most of the time when I am playing, it is only me. My family cannot travel because of work,” they say.

They may get more opportunities for personally to see the archery.

More global competitive gaming competitions are being organized in Britain, in which players from all over the world are flying to participate.

National and local governments are keen to attract large tournaments due to the influx of visitors and cash bringing to local areas.

But usually Archie says that he does not allow the crowd to change how he plays, and only notices cheers when his side scores a goal.

“You are just trying to win the game – I’m completely closed,” they say.
