New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday approved the plan of the Forest Research Institute for census of the first tree in Delhi and also indicated the proposal of Dehradun-based institute to increase the green cover in the city. Two exercises will be conducted simultaneously in a period of three and a half years census in three phases and the growth of green cover in four years.
The census will help the tree population track area-wise and investigate illegal flying. The court took a step in view of the fact that Delhi is a witness to five trees witnesses on an average. A bench of Justice Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan allowed Venus to go ahead with practice, but asked it to complete the tasks in a short period and try to reduce the budget.
The court also admitted to submit additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati that money should be issued from camp funds to do the census. He assured that the institute would be provided all the necessary help, but said that the exercise should be completed in a short time.
According to Venus, exercise will be done in three stages, with the aim of standardizing the functioning of the tree census with the first stage – it will take 15 months. The second phase is about the development of an action plan that will be done in three months, and the final stage is implementation, which will take two years.
The institute said in its affidavit, “FRI proposes an estimated budget of Rs 443 lakh for execution of phase one and phase two on the standardization of pilot testing for the development of the action plan for implementation in Phase three.
This is the tree authority and said Delhi forest department Will start the census, and will provide technical assistance and capacity building to the department officials in exercising in addition to FRI monitoring and evaluation. The final report will be submitted to the court by the Authority.
It said that the institute will design and develop a web portal and a mobile app for census. Regarding increasing the green cover in the National Capital Territory (NCT), Venus placed a four -year action plan before the court, so that a basis can be made to launch a large -scale further focus campaign to increase the forest and tree cover of the area falling within the boundary of NCT in Delhi.
National forest policy The mandate is that one third of the total land area of the country should be under the forest or tree cover.
