Daniel Medvedev revealed a reason behind his incredible form this year after winning the new racket string.
The Russian World No. 2 is using a different version of technics strings and said that his game has been “incredible” since switching ahead of the Australian Open.
He has now won five titles this year-the highest in his career-and Sunday’s 7-5 7-5 win against Denmark’s Holger Run in the Italian Open final on Sunday marked the first trophy that he has captured Clay.
“I think strings help me … because they are just soft, the ball becomes easier,” Medvedev told reporters after defeating the run.
“In Australia directly where I lost, we were like us with my coach, ‘Wow, I have an easy depth on the ball, which is amazing,” ”
“In Australia, it didn’t work. I was 100% doubting myself. Do I go back to the old people, I was playing well with them? I said no, let’s try more. It’s unreliable now.”
After an hour, after a 40-minute delay due to rain in Rome, Medvedev fought against the run through a tight first set, rescuing two brake points 2โ2 before achieving a significant break at 6-5, when he ran on the net and climbed on a drop shot.
20-year-old Run replied with two brakes in the second set to take a 5โ3 lead, but from there Medvedev emphasized his baseline dominance and won the next four matches to wrap the victory.
After winning most of his titles in -2021, in his US Open Triumph-Hard Courts, winning Clay in the Italian Open is a success for 27-year-old Medvedev.
After Rafael Nadal’s return from the French Open last week, the second Grand Slam of the calendar year is difficult to predict with men’s single draw with world number 1 Carlos Alakraj and 22 -time Grand Slam Champion Novak Djokovic.
But Medvedev, who has never made progress ahead of the quarter -finals in Rolland Garos, will feel confident. During his Italian open campaign, he had to defeat the choice of Stephanos Tsitipus and Alexander Zerev and climbed five places in the men’s ranking this year.

He said about his latest title, “This is a special because I did not think it was going to be able to be, (that I was) was going to be able to make it.”
“I still don’t believe – it’s not that I won it, but that I played so well this week. I don’t believe. The way I played, I am really happy. To bring back the trophy back home in some time.”
The French Open from May 28 to June 11 and Medvedev, whose ground strokes look more powerful than ever, have emerged as a strong contender.
