Beijing: A promising Chinese young footballer died after a serious injury during training in Spain, local media said on Thursday.
Guo Jiaxuan fell into a coma last month after an accident during a training match between Beijing men’s U -20 team and Spanish side RC Alkobandas in Madrid.
He was declared a “brain dead” by a local hospital before he moved to China for further care.
But according to several domestic media reports, Guo died on Wednesday evening after his condition deteriorated at Beijing Tanton Hospital.
Guo, who played for the U-19 team of the top-level Beijing Guan and was selected to the U-17 team of China in 2023, decreased one day from his nineteenth birthday.
He was also previously included in the FC Bayern World Squad, an annual project operated by Germany’s largest club to detect global talent.
On social media, Guo’s brother posted a black-end-white picture of the young defender with the caption: “He will be frozen forever on the last day of his 18th year”.

On Tuesday, Guo’s brother wrote on social media that the family “only wants truth and justice”.
