While drinking tree sap does not look attractive immediately, Canadian manufacturers are expecting that it will be the next-tri soft drinks worldwide.

We all have heard of maple syrup, boiling the sap of maple trees and is made to produce a thick, sweet, golden-brown-brown syrup that is usually inserted on the pancakes.

It is rarely known that you can drink sap, which is called maple water. Clear in color, it contains only 2% natural sugars, so it is only slightly sweet.

A small but rising number of producers in Canada is now selling this maple water in bottles or compartments, giving a filter and pasteurization to kill any germs first.

“People feel that they are drinking wild Canadian forest,” call Yanik Lakeler of Maple 3, a manufacturer of the Maple Water Drink located in Quebec City.

Advocates point to the fact that this is a natural drink, and manufacturers hope that it can steal some sales from the current similar product – coconut water. The latter is made of water which naturally is made inside the coconut.

Since Canada is far and away and the world’s largest producer of maple syrup – accounting for more than 80% production – it makes sense that the newborn maple water area is also Canadian. In addition, it focuses on the Quebec province, which makes 90% of Canada’s maple syrup.

Mr. Lakeler says that Maple is one of the pioneers of the 3 sector. “Nobody (earlier) did not think of keeping SAP for their hydration purposes, just to boil it in the syrup.”

He joined the company in 2016, established after three years by his business partner Stephen Nalt. The increasing number of other producers in recent years has entered the market.

Mr. Lakeler claims that Maple3 has doubled its annual profits since 2021, not only growing in Canada with sales, but in 12 other countries, including France, Japan, Singapore and South Korea. Some 75% of its sales now come from abroad, and it still sells both and sparkling maple water, and fizzi version, which is accompanied by the taste of natural fruits.

“This is more than just one local product at this point,” says Sri Lakeler.

For the maple water industry as a whole, a recent report predicts large growth. It estimated that global sales in 2024 Total $ 506m (ยฃ 409m), It is expected to jump to $ 2.6bn by 2033.

Comparing, coconut water sold worldwide Reached $ 7.7bn in 2023, It is expected to grow to $ 22.9bn by 2029. Therefore, maple is a long way to catch water.

Meanwhile, the maple syrup was the global value of the market Last year $ 1.7BN, according to a study.

Beth Sejravoni, a dietist with a non-profit medical center Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, says the growing popularity of maple water is associated with its alleged health benefits.

“When the SAP is filtered through the tree itself, it absorbs a bunch of antioxidants,” she says. “So they are going to end to a better performance and a rapid workout recovery.”

However, a 2019 medical study concluded that there was maple water “Renaissance was not superior” For normal water.

Jeremy Kinla is the owner of Soda Pop Bros in Windsor Ontario, who sells soft drinks under its own brand name, as well as imports from all over the world.

His family has been in the industry for almost a century, and during his lifetime he has seen and seen a proper part of the trends.

He says that if the maple water is to go into the mainstream, it requires the financial support and promotion of one of the huge global soft drink firms.

“It will actually take a big soda manufacturer to catch,” they say.

Mr. Kinella also says that the price of maple water is currently very high. “When it comes down, someone is looking at the can of coke for a deer and they are looking at the maple water can for three rupees, trying it one or two times and going back to Coke,” they say.

It is difficult to see maple water ever over the popularity of maple syrup

Marketing maple water will definitely help increase sales, John Tomeori says, which helps run Pefferlaw Creek Farms in Ontario’s UXBRIDGE. He and his brother have been commercially creating maple syrup for nearly 10 years, and since the last four they have been selling SAP to a Canadian brand, called SAP Chip. It makes sparkling sap water with separately added tastes, from lime to grapes and lemon to orange.

Mr. Tomori says that he agrees with the view that SAP has been made more interesting. “I know that many people have just tried to sell SAP as it is, just the basic sap from the tree and it is still, but they are not really caught,” they say.

“Therefore I think it makes it more interesting to carbonate and add the taste of fruits. It is a real innovation.”

Back to Maple 3 in Quebec, Mr. Lakenarak also thinks that the sparkling version of the drink can be more popular: “This is the allowance that is not in a normal sparkling water,” he says, such as a more interesting taste, near all bad accessories (regular) soda. ,
