On 28 November, the European Toner and Inkjet Remancumen’s Association (Etira) issued an important warning.
The association claims that most of the new-made compatible cartridges in Europe are non-transportation and clearly illegal. In a five-month investigation, Etira acquired around 50 cartridges from a series of stockists and found that 75% of these new products failed to meet the European Union standards. Only 8% was complied with.
We all know that these products came from China. And, I am sure that everyone who read this will agree that compliance is non-perfect, and “dodi” cheap products should be identified and it should be terminated to maintain the integrity of our industry.
But … Etira report leaves many unanswered questions:
- If 75% of non-non-compliance and 8% were obedient, what about the remaining 17%?
- How many suppliers were tested? Was cartridges 50 separate suppliers, or at least? If yes, how many?
- With millions of cartridges entering Europe from China, were these 50 samples representatives of the entire market?
- Was there a qualified panel that reviewed and validated the conclusion?
Transparency is important in such a study, so I ask Etira General Secretary, Vincent Van DIJK (painted), and President Xavier Martinez to share more information about their functioning. How was the sample chosen? What testing procedures were used? And, how was the results analyzed?
Even more important is what Atira will do with these conclusions? Will this harmful information be given to European officials?
After all, we all want our industry to be in our best form, not us?
