London/Doha: A British-Pakistani child located in Qatar and a teenage senior advisor psychiatrist, Dr. Yasar Saeed Khan has been elected president of the Royal College of Psychiatrist (RCPSYCH) MENA (Middle East and North Africa) division, securing 109 out of -140 votes with an overwhelming majority.
Dr. who spent 13 years working in NHS in UK. Khan moved to Doha in 2017 to support the development of children and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), expert at Khan, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
He currently leads the service as a medical lead, is a program director of children and adolescent psychiatry fellowships, and makes an educational appointment as a clinical associate professor at the College of Medicine, the University of Qatar.
As the vice president of the RCPSYCH MENA Division in the last three years, he has led several major initiatives. These include the launch of regional projects in Palestine, Iraq and Egypt, and organizing the first MRCPSYCH CASC Examination Center (to start in November 2025), and organizing conferences and seminars in the region in partnership with local providers.
Dr. Khan has also prioritized trainee support – clarifying Berseries to participate in RCPSCH International Congress, advising MTI applicants from countries like Sudan, Egypt and Yemen, and guiding members through successful fellowship applications.
They told Live news: “My vision as a chair is to strengthen the role of partition as a center of professional cooperation, research and advocacy. I am also planning to expand regional research and dementia to support sustainable development in mental health.”
