Punjab Kings Batter Priyash Arya, who scored 23 runs in the first match against Gujarat Titans, was torn in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in this season, could not follow that innings, scored just 8 and 0 in the next two matches against Lucknow Super Veterans and Rajasthan Royals. But the young man returned with a brilliant century against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday.
Speaking about how he maintained his confidence during that 2-Match lean patch, Arya said that head coach Ricky Ponting and captain Shreyas Iyer’s advice helped a lot.
He said, “Ricky sir assured me by saying that anyone can be out of the first ball. He told me that if you get the same ball, I got me out of the park.”
He said, “Ricky sir always keeps asking me to improve his bridge shot. She has not worked with her on the technical front, we only talk about the mindset.”
He also revealed how the chat with Captain Iyer uplifted his morale after being out for duck against Rajasthan.
“In the nets ahead of the CSK game, Shreyas Bhai asked me to go with his first idea only after watching the ball. Even before the season, he told me that I will play all 14 games. Both Shreyas and Ricky Sir have never spoken anything negative after the dismissal of the first ball. It is bound to promote your trust.”
He said, “I started for the Senior Delhi team in 2021, but got out after two matches. So I wanted to score continuously. Even last year, I was not continuously. But I was able to achieve that continuity in DPL and state team this season.”
