Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player AB de Villiers said that RCB team balance looks 10 times better this season, as the Bengaluru franchise started their Indian Premier League campaign with a blast with a win against Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings. In the opener on March 22, RCB defeated KKR by 7 wickets, while on Friday, he won the first time in Chepack after 2008, defeating CSK by 50 runs.
“The balance of the RCB squad is 10 times better than the previous season. In the auction (last year), I talked about the requirement of RCB. It is not about bowlers, batsmen or fielders … It is about having a sound balance in IPL teams and options,” De Villiers said in his podcast.
He explained his point more with the example of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who was draft in the team for the CSK match after sitting out of the opener against KKR. This would be a clever decision with Bhubaneswar, sniffing Deepak Hooda in Powerplay, reeling CSK at 26/3, which eventually led to his collapse.
“I looked at Bhuvi and thought ‘he was not going to play and he came in.”
On April 7, RCB will take action against Gujarat Titans on April 2 before facing another major clash against Mumbai Indians on 7 April.
