    Australia’s Steve Smith announced on Wednesday that he called it quits from the 50 -over format after exiting his International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy 2025.

    The 35 -year -old batsman, who led the team in the absence of regular captain Pat Cummins, will continue to play and play T20 international.

    Smith on Tuesday stated his decision to retiring the Champions Trophy against India in Dubai in the 2025 semi -final after Australia’s four -wicket defeat, scoring top with 73 in 264 of his side on Tuesday.

    “It has been a great ride and I have loved it every minute,” Smith said in a Cricket Australia press release.

    After making his debut against the West Indies as leg-spinning all-rounder in 2010, Smith went to play 170 Odis, scoring 5,800 runs at an average of 43.28.

    He smoked 12 centuries and 35 half -centuries, and was a member of Australia’s 2015 and 2023 World Cup winning teams.

    “There have been many amazing times and amazing memories,” Smith said.

    “Winning two World Cups was a great attraction with many magnificent teammates who shared the journey.

    “Now there is a great opportunity for people to start preparing for 2027 World Cup, so it sounds like the right time to make a way.

    “Test cricket is a priority and I am really eager for the World Test Championship Final (in June), West Indies in winter and then England at home. I think I still have a lot to contribute on that platform.”
