Washington: The United States and Ukraine signed a mineral deal after two months delay on Wednesday, in which the administration of President Donald Trump said a new form of American commitment to Kiev after the end of military aid.
Ukraine said that it achieved important interests after interaction, including complete sovereignty on its rare earth, which are important for new techniques and are largely unused.
Trump initially demanded Ukraine’s rights to mineral funds as Russia has a compensation of billions of dollars in US weapons sent under the former President Joe Biden three years ago after the invasion of Russia.
Following the initial hesitation, Ukraine has accepted a mineral agreement as a way to secure long -term investment by the United States, as Trump tries to return US security commitments worldwide.
Announcing the signing of the deal in Washington, Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said that “he showed the commitment of both sides for permanent peace and prosperity in Ukraine.”
“The agreement clearly indicates to Russia that the Trump administration is committed to a peace process that focuses on an independent, sovereign and rich Ukraine for a long time,” said Besant.
“And to be clear, any state or individual who funds or supplies the Russian war machine will be allowed to benefit from the reconstruction of Ukraine.”
In Kiev, Prime Minister Dennis Shameel said on National Television that the agreement was “good, equal and profitable”.
In a post on Telegram, Shameel said that the two countries would set up a reconstruction investment fund with each aspect with 50 percent voting rights.
“Ukraine holds complete control over its sub -musical, infrastructure and natural resources,” he said.
There is a significant concern for Kiev, he said Ukraine would not be asked to pay any “loan” for billions of dollars in US weapons and other supports as Russia invaded in February 2022.
“Fund’s profits will be particularly re -established in Ukraine,” he said.
Trump had originally demanded $ 500 billion in mineral funds – the contribution that the United States has contributed to Ukraine since the war.
American presence against ‘bad actors’
Trump has offered Ukraine to give security guarantee and rejected his aspiration to join NATO.
But Trump said on Wednesday that Ukraine would benefit from American presence on the ground.
Trump said at the cabinet meeting, “I think the American presence, I think that keep a lot of bad actors out of the country or certainly out of the region where we are digging.”
State Secretary Marco Rubio on Tuesday threatened that the Trump administration would give up arbitration on the struggle – which Trump vowed to end in the office on his first day during the campaign – until the two sides “come forward with” concrete proposals.
Trump has pressurized a colony in which Ukraine will leave some area seized by Russia, which has rejected the US-supported overtorative for at least 30 days of ceasefire.
President Volodmi Zelancesi denied any formal concession for Russia’s Crimea, scoring anxation by the peninsula and Moscow seized in 2014 internationally.
But Zelancesi has taken care of Trump’s voice support for Trump’s diplomacy after the White House meeting on 28 February, where Trump and Vice President JD Vance instigated him to be committed to American assistance allegedly.
The Zelanceci was due to signing the mineral agreement at the White House, but surprisingly shown the door after the stunning on-camera quarrel.
Ukraine holds a few percent of the world’s mineral resources and rare Earth, according to various estimates. But the work has not yet started on the exploitation of many resources and many sites are now in the region controlled by Russian forces.
In particular, Ukraine has about 20 percent of the world’s graphite, according to France’s Bureau of Geological and Mining Research, an essential material for electric batteries.
Ukraine is also a major manufacturer of manganese and titanium, and states that it is the largest lithium deposit in Europe.
Russia controls about 20 percent of Ukraine’s area after a brutal battle of over three years, killing thousands, including citizens.
Ukraine began an amazing intrusion in Russia’s Kursk region last August. Moscow claimed to completely clean the Ukrainian forces over the weekend.
Russia said on Wednesday that 288 citizens died during Kursk.
