So far, Google has done a commendable job of putting generic AI tools on Android smartphone. Earlier today, it further announced the refinement of how the users talk with Mithun AI assistant and also increase some free. Now, Google is following an AI tool that has done poorly on iPhones.
People of Androidauthority took a look at the latest beta update of Android 13 and found it mentioned“Notification Summary.” To enable this feature, users must flick a dedicated togle under the notification dashboard of the Settings App.
A thoughtful approach to Android
Thankfully, the users will be able to disable information for apps they do not want to see briefly. The analysis of strings shows that this feature will only summarize information that host consequent materials, such as messages and any other app alerts.
This is a thoughtful strategy, and is likely to avoid the dirt coming from informants summarized within the Apple Intelligence Bundle. Notification summary is a useful way to catch on the chatter in a biz group like friends or workplace chats.
Google or Apple will not be the first to think of notifications. The excellent shortway email app inbox depends on the GPT stack of Openai to impress the conversations effectively. On the other hand, summarized notifications can often recall the context and bend things into a lowly wrong blurb.
I have often seen how the summary from teams chat is often completely non-related and suddenly how to merge information in a sentence, which does not mean any meaning. It will be interesting to see if Google’s AI models are any better in condensing interactive information.
Learning from Apple’s mistakes
Apple’s implementation has drawn a lot of flakes, including a lot of criticism from BBC. For example, a bottled news summary claimed that tennis legend, Rafael Nadal, had surfaced as gay. Reporters Widout Borders (RSF) highlighted the incident and said that the underlying AI system could not handle reliable, high quality news materials.
The head of RSF’s technology and journalism desk wrote, “RSF asks Apple to remove this facility and act responsibly.” “The automatic production of false information responsible for a media outlet is a shock to the reliability of the outlet and a threat to the public rights for reliable information on current affairs.”

In view of frequent flals, Apple eventually recognized that the notification summary system still needs some polish. By that end, the company disabled it to apps that serve news and entertainment materials. Apple also began to Italic the font of the summary text in the notification banner so that it would stand out.
With the rollout of the third beta update of iOS 18.3, the company added language to warn users that informs may ever have errors. “This beta feature will sometimes make mistakes that can incorrectly present the meaning of the original material,” the setup reads the message.
Now that Android is searching for summary information, I am equally optimistic as well as doubt the approach. On one hand, my experience with Mithun has been quite smooth. However, other Google products such as AI overview search continue to collect with something as the current year in search.
