Individuals looking to update their mobile numbers linked with Aadhaar must visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre, as online updates are not permitted due to the mandatory biometric verification requirement, according to the UIDAI.The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has clarified that linking the correct mobile number with Aadhaar is critical for accessing services such as government subsidies, pensions, healthcare, banking, and insurance, which rely on OTP-based verification, according to an ET report.Key details:In-person update only: Users cannot update their Aadhaar-linked mobile number online because biometric verification is necessary. How to book an appointment:Visit UIDAI’s official website and navigate to My Aadhaar > Get Aadhaar > Book an Appointment. Enter your location, mobile number (even if it’s not linked to Aadhaar), generate and verify the OTP, and confirm the appointment. What’s needed:Individuals must carry valid documents and appointment details during the centre visit.Once the request is submitted, the mobile number update may take 2–4 weeks to reflect in the Aadhaar database, according to an ET report. Status can be tracked using the Update Request Number (URN) issued at the time of submission.Charges:⦁ The update costs Rs 50 if done separately.⦁ No additional fee is charged if the mobile update is done along with biometric updates.UIDAI also offers verification of existing mobile number and email ID through its website:⦁ Go to Aadhaar Services > Verify Email/Mobile Number⦁ Enter Aadhaar number, relevant contact info, and CAPTCHA⦁ Submit to check if the details are already registeredAccording to UIDAI, “Enabling Aadhaar for various services like government & non-government services, subsidy benefits, pensions, scholarships, social benefits, banking services, insurance services, taxation services, education, employment, healthcare etc., makes it essential to ensure that Aadhaar data… is accurate and up-to-date.”
