HMP has launched England’s largest prison in Staffordshire, Britain’s first-project supermarket located in Staffordshire. In collaboration with Food Retailer Iceland, there is now a supermarket in the jail where prisoner can buy branded treats such as Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and popular Chicago Town Pizza, which are not available in regular gel canteen, Times reported.
What is the currency system to separate this store. Prisoners use monopoly-style money earned through good behavior in category C jail. The incentive scheme allows them to earn up to 25 pounds (about 2800 rupees) per week, the Daily Mail reported. What is more, prices in this gel branch are lower than Iceland’s high-cream outlets.
The in-procedure is part of a major initiative to re-create the atmosphere of a shopping center inside a huge warehouse inside the supermarket gel, called ‘Marketplace’. Along with Iceland, it has a coffee shop, a fresh production stall with fruits and vesis, and a holiday store called JP Sports.

Marketplace is designed to help prisoners to infection more smoothly in society after release, some also employed as part of their rehabilitation in the store. The program was the brainchild of HMP Oakwood’s employment head Carly Balis, which helps identify prisoners suitable for a role in the in-Jail Iceland branch.
HM Chief Inspector of Jails, Charlie Taylor, has praised the project as a “unusually effective” and named HMP Okwood as the number one jail in England last year. He called it “the best gel I have seen as the main inspector in my time.”
