The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has achieved a milestone, according to micro, small and medium enterprises, for the first time in the history of independent India, a business of Rs 1.70 lakh crore has been done.
KVIC President Manoj Kumar shared provisional figures for the financial year 2024-25, marked the record growth during production, sales and employment.
While releasing data at KVIC headquarters in Rajghat in New Delhi on Monday, Manoj Kumar announced that Khadi and Gram Industries products saw an increase of 347 percent in production and 447 percent increase in sales in the last 11 years. Employment generation increased by 49.23 percent, reaching 1.94 crore persons, showing a deep role in the region in rural livelihood creation.
The KVIC president said, “The vision of a self -sufficient India contained in the legacy of Bapu’s Khadi is being felt through transformational efforts under the ‘Ajadi’s Amrit Mahotsav’ and ‘Wikit Bharat’ mission.”
In FY 2024-25, production increased to 1.16 lakh crores in 2013-14, above 26,109 crore. Similarly, sales were 1.70 lakh crore in 2013-14 as compared to 31,154 crores. Khadi Gramodog Bhawan in New Delhi also achieved a record business, viewed 110.01 crores, which was more than doubled the turnover of 51.02 crore in 2013-14.
Khadi clothing section also increased on a large scale. Production increased from 811 crore in 2013-14 to 3,783 crore to jump 366 percent in 2024-25. Khadi clothing sales increased by 561 percent, from 1,081 crore to 7,145 crore, credit for strong national promotion, especially by the Prime Minister himself.
The Prime Minister Employment Generation Program (PMEGP) plays an important role in rural employment. Under this scheme, 10.18 lakh units have been established, of which 27,166 crore margin money subsidy and more than 90 lakh people have been working since their establishment.
Kumar highlighted the increasing scale of support under the Gramodog Development Scheme, where the budget increased by 134 percent to 60 crores for the financial year 2025-26. KVIC has so far distributed over 2.87 lakh machines and toolkits, including wheels of utensils, bee boxes, sunlight machines and craft tools, which help promote micro enterprises in rural areas.
In the last decade, 7.43 lakh people have been trained, of which 57.45 percent (over 4.27 lakh) are women. Additionally, 80 percent of the five lakh Khadi artisans are women, whose wages have increased by 275 percent in the last 11 years – according to the release of the Ministry of MSME, only 100 percent in the last three years.
“This progress is not only statistical-it shows the change of rural India through enterprise, skill-making and empowerment. It sets a strong foundation to achieve the goal of making India the third largest economy by 2047,” Kumar concluded.
