in context: Players who compete in eSports require sharp, responsible performances for their best performance. The producers are rapidly catering for this specific audience, the high-demonstration monitors often come at a premium price.
Asus recently unveiled a full HD monitor capable of reaching the 610Hz refresh rate via overclocking. The manufacturer of Taiwan shared details about the record-breaking display on the Chinese social media platform Bilibili, suggesting that the device is mainly aimed at the Asian market.
Asus Rog XG248Q5G-P is designed for ESPORTS congestion, which has a 24-inch full HD display with “super” TN panel and ultra-fast 0.1 MS response time. Its refresh rate starts at 240Hz and can be overclocking up to 480Hz or 610Hz. Connectivity options include displayport 1.4, HDMI 2.1 and a standard audio jack.
The monitor supports both NVidia G-SYNC and AMD FREESYNC premium for variable refresh rates, while color coverage is rated at 90 percent DCI-P3. ASUS has also integrated its dual backlight technology to reduce motion blur and promote brightness, as well as an ROG-exclusive AI feature as well as on-screen crosshare and increases dynamic expansion for better visibility in competitive games.
The ROG XG248Q5G-P monitor is expected to ship with MSRP of 7,999 RMB (~ $ 1,100) next month. While ultra-fast monitors with 500Hz or higher refreshing rates are no longer new, manufacturers continue to carry forward boundaries. For example, Samsung has detected OLED technology to promote image quality along with speed.
To achieve such extreme refreshing rates usually require very powerful GPU hardware, even on low resolutions adapted to eSports. Nevertheless, in 2024, TCL showed 4K display capable of reaching 1,000 Hz. It is not clear whether any gaming software can actually take advantage of this fresh rate – perhaps in addition to the eternal of doom, which runs on the high scalable ID Tech 7 engine.
In addition to ultra-fast XG248Q5G-P, ASUS also unveiled a second monitor with double-mode, double-resolution capabilities. The ROG XG32UCG has a 32 -inch fast IPS panel and supports full HD at 160Hz or 320Hz at 4K. Over the 0.3MS response time, this model can be theoretically used in competitive asports – assuming that you are ready to work around a large display.
Asus has planned to launch XG32UCG in May with a suggested price of 3,999 RMB (~ 550 USD).
