Ferrari’s driver Lewis Hamilton and Charles Lakeler on Sunday admitted to cheating while playing chess against each other in Bahrain Fan Zone ahead of Bahrain Grand Prix.
Since Hamilton, the seven -time world champion with McLaren and Mercedes arrived at Ferrari, Lakeler and inspired them to play online chess in various events, whether it is F1 75 events, or plane rides on their next race together in the country. On Saturday, Hamilton talked about how the two were playing chess against each other and at the end of the day, the score was tied at 4-4.
Hamilton then said that it did not seem right that they fall asleep with a tied score, so a decisive game ended. It was when the British driver admitted to cheating against Lakeler and said, “The tricks that he was making was very good. I thought I would go online and what to do next, I will find ‘suggestions’ on what to do.
Despite cheating at the same point, Lakeler admitted that he lost the game. “The worst thing is that my bot – the program I was using – he was worse than that, so I was cheating, and I was still lost. I was asleep that I got so sad.”
Both Hamilton and Lakeler made Q3 of merit for the Bahrain Grand Prix, with Lakeler finished third for the race on Sunday and Hamilton made ninth place. Ferrari has made a hard start for the season, McLaren has clearly placed with a better car, but the Red Bull’s Max Verustapen and both Mercedes have also shown that they are ahead of the Italian team so far.
