After refusing to get Glenn Philips out of the tournament, Cagiso Rabada left for personal reasons, the Gujarat Titans were given another blow in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Filips on April 6, while fielding against Sunrisers Hyderabad, raised a waist injury and the franchise said that the all-rounder had returned to New Zealand. Table-toppers with four wins in five matches are not yet a replacement name.
Incidentally, Philips did not find a place in the initial line-up of Titans even during his tenure with the team. Against Sunrisers, he came as an alternative after the fifth over. On the fourth ball of that over, Ishaan Kishan played the ball towards the point. Philips chased it and threw the ball towards the end of the wicketkeeper as Kishan and Nitish Reddy participated the same. However, he immediately grabbed his waist and went down and came back to digging with the help of members of the team of Titans.
Gujarat, who has not named a replacement for Rabada, is now down to five foreign players—Arfen Rutherford, Rashid Khan, Jose Butler, Garald Koetzi and Afghan all-rounder Karim Janat.
Of the five, Koetzi is also returning from an injury that excluded him from the SA20 and the Champions Trophy.
