
Turbines remove energy from the air, slow down the air in their wake

Imagine that you have created yourself a cute new house, which has an uninterrupted view of some nearby mountains. But, within months, someone else starts building a house in front of you, which blocks your view. A neighborhood dispute looks unavoidable.
A similar landscape is playing with rapid development of new offshore wind farms in northern Europe. As the seabed is faster with new turbines, developers are worried that new winds can “steal” air from existing sites.
