Do you believe that temporary ceasefire will help in relief efforts?
In response to the disaster, the army declared a temporary ceasefire in the ongoing civil war, announced on the state television MRTV that enmity would be stopped by 22 April to facilitate relief efforts. However, the military warned the resistance groups against using the ceasefire to reorganize or launch attacks, taking care that “necessary measures” would be taken if the violation occurred. Meanwhile, opposition forces have said that we reserve the right to defend ourselves on attack.
The earthquake, which occurred in the afternoon last Friday, caused widespread destruction, topping buildings, collapse of bridges and severely damaging infrastructure. Despite the ongoing rescue operations, most teams are fixing bodies rather than the remaining people. However, on Wednesday, rescue workers survived four people from debris in various places.
The earthquake has already extended Myanmar’s already strict human crisis, which has deteriorated due to prolonged conflict. According to the United Nations, more than 3 million people were displaced even before the disaster, and about 20 million humanitarian aid was immediate requirement. Local sources are afraid that the actual death may be more than the toll report.
