French politician Marine Le Penn and eight other members of his right -wing party were found guilty of embezzlement of public money on Monday, and were barred from running to the public office themselves.
The French court did not immediately announce how long the Le Penn would be disqualified to the office, and he was out of the court before reading his sentence. He is a top candidate for the President in 2027, and Le Penn said that it would be “political death” to prevent him from running in that election.
Le Penn has argued that such punishment will also effectively destroy its voters. She came second for French President Emmanuel Macron in both 2017 and 2022 elections, and her national rally party has increased in large -scale support in recent years.
Le Penn told the court before his sentence, “There are 11 million people who voted for the movement.

The facts of his case are related to the expenses of funds from the European Parliament to support the aspects of the National Rally Party. The prosecutors established in the court that the European Union Parliament Fund was used to pay his personal assistant along with the bodyguard of the pen. Other defendants were blamed for similar uses as wealth.
The prosecutors requested a 2-year jail sentence as well as a 5-year period of political disqualification for Le Penn.
Le Penn said he felt that he is “only interested” in preventing the President from running.
