Joe Root, Most Vigilant England The Test Batter, “that ship has been dispatched”, is ruling any possibility of captaining the side again as far as the main England day is concerned, while he focuses on the challenge of facing India in a five-prone series at home in this summer.
Root stated that the current Indian side, when with full force, pays opponents for their mistakes, which makes it important for England to be on top of their game when the Indian team goes to mark the onset of the 2025–27 World Test Championship cycle.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Root said, “We are good in our own situations, but there is no hiding place with a series of five matches in India.
The 34-year-old Root launched Alastair Cook last year to become England’s leading Test run-scorer and got England 27 wins in 64 matches between 2017 and 2022 before the captain was removed.

In 2021, a challenging stretch won the team only one in 17 matches, including a disappointing Ashes series in Australia, inspiring Root to abandon their captaincy position.
Route returned to one -day turn during the recently concluded Champions Trophy and scored 225 runs in three innings including hundred. But England failed to make it in the semi -finals.
Root said, “The Champions Trophy was disappointing. We did not play anywhere that we were capable, but there is so much talent and much to come from that team.”
He said, “I think it is a good opportunity to move back and move forward as a group and go back to the heights that we are able to know and we were in and around that phase of 2015 to 2019 (winning World Cup in 2019).”
Root dismissed England’s possibility of captaining the limited overs teams after the team went down from Butler’s role after the team’s low performance in the Champions Trophy. The veteran cricketer made his stand clear about the leadership status in white-ball formats.
“I think the ship has left. I have done my time as a captain in England, but I am sure whoever gets the opportunity to do so will be very proud and will do a great job,” Root said.
He has eyes set on five tests against India, followed by ashes by the end of the year.
Root said, “These are the years for which you play. Two of the two largest teams, two largest series you can play as an England player. This is something that the team is missing,” Root said.
“I think the building of this team – covering a lot of bases and giving yourself a lot of options to succeed in different circumstances.
“I think we (we are able to win ashes). I think we got to take care of those things. Cricket At home, “he said.
