Ali Khan Taaren, the owner of Multan Sultans, has criticized the Pakistan Super League (PSL) over the decision to perform the anthem for the 10th edition of the league, questioning the lack of diversity in artist selection.
Taking on Instagram, Taaren expressed disappointment on the reiterate dependence on the Zafar of PSL, writing, “Pakistan has a lot of amazing artists. Nevertheless, about half of our songs have been given to a friend of the same middle -aged, despite increasing franchise concerns. They talk about making it the biggest PSL ever, yet the same recycled voices keep giving place.”
Repeated selection raises questions
PSL on Tuesday announced that Zafar would perform the official anthem for PSL X, marking its fifth time as a league -painted singer. He sang first “Now game’s lamp” (2016), “AB Khel Jayamay Ga” (2017), “Dil Se Jaan Laga Dey” (2018)And return with “Open game” After a gap in 2024 after legal issues with singer Mesha Shafi.
Taaren’s criticism reflects widespread concerns on PSL’s approach to artist selection. In the past, the franchise has allegedly pushed to fresh voices, but the League continued to bring back the Zafar despite objections.
What will happen next?
Despite the backlash, PSL has not indicated any plan to reconsider its choice. A release date for Zafar’s PSL 10 Anthem has not been announced yet, while the tournament has been closed on 11 April.
