Major demands behind the strike
L. Chandrashekhar, General Secretary of the National Confederation of Bank Employee (NCBE), despite several discussions with IBA highlighted many unresolved issues:
Staff shortage: immediate need for recruitment at all levels to manage the workload efficiently.
Board Representation: Appointment of directors and officer directors working in public sector banks.
Job Safety concerns: Rollbacks of demonstration reviews and incentive policies launched by the Department of Finance Ministry (DFS) of the Finance Ministry, which unions believe that the stability of the job is threatened.
Bank autonomy: Opposition of the unions described by DFS as “micro-management”, arguing that excessive interference reduces the freedom of bank boards.
Gratuity Act Amendment: To align with the benefits of government employees, proposes to increase the gratuity sealing to 25 lakhs, as well as the demand for tax exemption on gratuity payment.
