The weekend was captured by the last moments of a “highly skilled” pilot before dying of an accident at an air show in South Africa.
The deadly incident of James O’conal came to light at Saldana Bay Airfield outside Cape Town on Saturday. An aircraft was shown in the footage that makes an aerial maneuver before crashing into the ground, producing a fireball and shouting from those in appearance.
“It is with deep sadness that the organizer of the West Coast Aircraft confirms a fatal accident, including a highly efficient and respected test pilot in South Africa, James O’conale, when he operated the Impala Mark 1 aircraft during today’s performance in Soldan,” the organizers of the incident said in a statement.
He said, “Sri O’Connal Empala was performing a regular performance to display the capabilities of Mark 1 – a dear warbird with deep historical importance for many South African people – this was especially a very big moment because Imala has not been performed in aircraft for many years,” he said. “The exercise was being executed by thousands of spectators, being executed as part of the official aircraft program.”

In the video of the incident, a cloud of black smoke increased in the sky after the accident.
Airsho’s commentator Brian Emanis was quoted by the organizers, “They rolled the aircraft … they replaced the aircraft, the undercage was up. When it came out, one could clearly see that he was losing height.” “He turned to the hangar – he was at that stage in a serious deep dive – and he went straight into the ground. There was no sign of an attempt to get it out.”
