“He is a very well kept humans together,” Williamson told ESPNcricinfo. “A great cricket cares about the brain and his teammates.
“He is really getting some clear idea how he wants to captain. And you know it is important. You have some thoughts and you do it with firm belief and you learn and you try and get better – and he gets better – and he has got all that. He has got that ability, and the way you play it, the way you play, the way you can adjust, he is also a good leader.”
Williamson also said that when Gill speaks, his team’s companions take care. He also liked Gill’s authenticity and his strong desire to be the best.
Williamson said, “He is clear, brief and at this point, so when it was time to speak, he would stand up, and when he spoke people used to listen,” Williamson said. “And this is really a strong quality – to know when something to say, and when not. There are messages within both those types of situations.
“He takes care of his body. He really works hard. He spends a lot of time in the gym, is conscious of what he eats. The game demands you a lot, and if you want to play all the formats and you want to be on top, it is the same, and he is ready to give his time and energy.
When you see him a train and you see him playing, something happens to him. He has got so much time, whether he is doing a little wicket, whether he is bowling people at a fast pace or moving the ball forward, he is still. He hits the ball in traditional areas, but very, very difficult. He is a beautiful timer of the ball and has a lot of time. ,
Even though Gill has the ability to be an all-format player, he has not yet strengthened his place in all three formats. Williamson says it is one thing to be a leader, but the player still has to complete his format-specific roles in the team. Gill is already India’s ODI Vice-Captain, and Williamson feels that he is additional for the national team’s leadership group, which takes India forward in the next few years.
“Each leader has a job to work with the skills that they have. Whatever is with the bat, the ball, you are trying to choose the best leader for the group you have.
“I think it’s probably what the role of Vice-Capanesey is really. There is a man here that we know that maybe this team is taking this team forward. So how we can bring it, how to bring him to understand how the Indian team has got so much success. It is very good there.
“I have not really seen him too much. He is on this way to be better and better. He has got strong aspirations to do so, and, and I am sure we will continue to see it in these other formats.”
The IPL 2025 will be Gill’s second season as a full -time IPL captain. In his first season after taking over from Hardik Pandya, GT finished eighth in the previous season, his worst performance in his first three sessions. Armed with a new team after the auction, Gill will be eager to re-consistency, as they were in IPL 2022 and 2023, ending as debut champions and runner-ups in gradual years.
