Former Beyrene Munich and France Winger Frank Riberi have revealed that due to post -surgery infection, he almost disintegrated his leg towards the end of his career.
Riberi, who won nine Bundeslaga titles and capted 81 times by his country, retired after a 22-year-old professional career in 2022, after a final magic of an injuries in Salenitana.
While his game career in Italy was forgotable, it was on the Seri A side, where Riberi went through his most frightening examination.
The 41 -year -old Riberi told L’Equipe that after a regular operation on his knee in his final season, he almost lost his leg after suffering from meat -eating infection.
“My knee suffered more and more injuries,” Riberi explained. “I was no longer training between matches, but was recovering to save myself.
“I went under a knife in Austria. The operation went well, with a plate inside. But I had a bad infection after about five months.
“They removed the plate, but the infection had eaten me away. It was so bad that there were holes in my leg. I signed Staphylococcus aureus.
“I was in an emergency room in Austria’s hospital for 12 days. I was really scared. They could cut my leg.”
Soon after, Riberi called time on a career, which saw him among other clubs in Galatasare, Marsile, Firantina and Bayern, the most notable over his time in Munich. Riberi scored 124 goals in 12 years with German veterans and was part of an attack, showing fellow star Winger Argen Roben on the opposite Flack.
But a moment in Bayern still bothers French; When he lost to Bellon D’Or in 2013.
Riberi was widely tapped to win the award after Bayern, a leading lead to a historic Treble, assisted in the final of the Champions League, won the UEFA best player at the Europe Award and scoring in the UEFA Super Cup. However, Cristiano Ronaldo won the award after controversial expanded for two weeks due to lack of “eligible voters”.
“I had everything except the award that year,” Riberi, who eventually finished third in the voting behind Lionel Messi. “This was the perfect year; I could not perform any better. Bellon de’ar would always be an injustice.
“I am still searching for an explanation, although some have offered their offer. I will never understand why the vote was delayed for more than two weeks, when I was a pioneer among journalists. If voting had happened, as it should be, I would have won.”
