New York Siren further AB stopped the first player to “Michigan Gol” in Professional Women’s Hockey League history, using a feby trick shot against Ottawa charge on Saturday afternoon.
“The Michigan” first came to hockey prominence in 1996, when Mike leg of the University of Michigan scored a “lacros-style” goal in the NCAA playoff game. Starting from the back of the rival’s trap, a skater scooped the cook on the blade of his stick, raised it and then a shot in the top corner, around the net, hit the shoulder of an unheard goalkeeper.
As the Ottawa proceeded 3–1 in the third period, Roke recovered a loose Pak on the aggressive area and skating behind the net of the charge. Golki Gwneth Philips tracked the play and looked down Crauch to stop on her blade. Philips quickly moved to their left and attempted to close the top of the net, but it was too late: Raket quickly broke the puck under the crossbar for her sixth goal of the season-and the first “Michigan Gol” in the history of the two-year-old league.

“Honestly, there was a lot around the net and I just knew that I had time behind the net to take it, I felt that I could also be,” Roke said, which is from Sutt Stei. Mary, Michigan. “Obviously, the goalkeeper is reverse-hand so I had to keep it inside.”
The 27 -year -old Raw is with the New York franchise of PWHL in his second season. A member of the Wahnapitae First Nation, the Roque Team was the first indigenous player in the USA hockey roster and played in the 2022 Women’s Olympic teams who captured the silver medal in Beijing.
“Michigan” remains a rare hockey achievement. The first successful attempt in the NHL was not until October 2019, when Andrei Swachicov of Carolina Storm replaced one.
There are only a handful of female players who have successfully tried “Michigan” during the Games. In 2023, Slovakia’s 14 -year -old Fenome Nela Lopusanova made headlines with “Michigan Gol” in the quarterfinal of the U18 IIHF World Championship, which is considered the first successful “Michigan” attempt by a woman player.
In February 2024, Margot Norhad of Brown University created “Michigan” against Quinipiaq at an NCAA Div. I game. On Saturday, stopped joining that exclusive club.
“This is something that has become a joke and we say every day when I come in the rink: ‘Michigan Today.” Rake said. “I really don’t mean that, but the opportunity presented myself, so I had to try.”
Siren plays his home games at the Prudential Center in Newark, the house of New Jersey Devils in NHL.
