A French Open doubles match ended controversial on Sunday as the number 1 seeds Miyu Kato and Aldila Sutjiadi were disqualified from the tournament, when a ball was hit by a ball from a ball.
After losing the initial sets to the Czech Republic’s entire Sorribes Tormo and Mary Buzkova, the incident took place 3–1 in the second set of Japan’s Kato and Indonesia’s Sutjiadi in the second set of their third round matches.

This is not the first time a player has been defaulted in a Grand Slam. One of the most high-profile events occurred in 2020 when Novak Djokovic’s US Open ended early after being default to unknowingly kill a line judge.
According to the Grand Slam Rule Book, the players will not “violently, dangerously or with anger, kick or throw a tennis ball within the east of the tournament site, except for a match (including warm-ups)” ”
The Rules Book states: “In all cases of default, the decision of the referee will be final and ineffective in consultation with the Grand Slam chief of supervisors.”
A player who is a default loses all the ranking points earned in the tournament, the rule book states and all the awards earned in the tournament.
