Indiana has hired Darian Davis of West Virginia as the new head coach of the men’s basketball program, the school on Tuesday.
Devries will get a six -year deal with the school, sources told ESPN.
Davis joins Hosiers after spending just one season with climbers. After his resignation in June 2023, he was hired in the last March to replace the interim head coach Josh Ilrt, who took to Bob Hugins. In its lonely season in Helm, Davrees took West Virginia to the overall record of 19–13, which ended 10–10 in Big 12-before the selection was taken away on Sunday.
Davis said in a statement, “This is undeniably one of the top jobs in the US.” “As a person who has grown up in the midwests that loves the game of basketball, I have always praised the IU basketball program for my championship-success, tradition and fan support. Within Big Ten and in the NCAA Tournament, both are a passion for success at the highest level, and it is a wish that I share it as a coach.”
Davrices signed a five-year deal, when he was hired in West Virginia, and a total purchase is expected to pay a total purchase of $ 6.15 million-$ 4.67 million from his basketball contract, as well as additional expenses, such as the drake and other expenses incurred in their work.
Before taking over in Morgentown, Davis was the head coach in Drake for six sessions, directing Bulldog to perform three NCAA tournaments in his last four sessions. He went to 150-55 during his time in Drake, winning at least 20 games every season. Bulldogs won the Missouri Valley Regular-Sector Championship in 2019 and the Conference Tournament Championship in 2023 and 2024.
Drake won the first four games in the 2021 NCAA tournament and lost to Miami in the first round in 2023 and Washington state last year.
Athletic director Scott Dolson said in a school statement, “We went to search for this coaching in our next head coach with some very specific things, and Darian emerged as someone who met paper, on paper, and often more than our criteria.” “Once we had a chance to talk to them, we knew that we have the right person. Darian has a plan to create a championship culture that can compete at the highest level in a year, on the highest level. They have a comprehensive D -1 coaching experience which includes 15 trips to NCAA tournament, which as a head coach.
Devris spent 20 seasons on the staff in Createan before becoming the head coach, consisting of both as an assistant coach under both Dana Altman and Greg McDermot.
In Indiana, he replaced Mike Woodson, who announced in early February that he had planned to step down in Bloomington at the end of his fourth season. A former Indiana star Woodson led Hosiers in the NCAA tournament in each of their first two sessions, but has settled speculation about its future for most of the last two sessions. Indiana missed the NCAA tournament in both the years, named one of the first four teams left out of this year’s ground.
Devries will handle a program with a strict requirement of constant success. Hosiers, one of the all -time winning programs at the college basketball and a program with five national championships, has moved only three times since reaching the National Championship game in 2002 in the first weekend of the NCAA tournament. He has missed six of the last eight NCAA tournaments under three different coaches.
The head coaching of the Devries, Tucker, Devries has been very heartbroken, earning the Missouri Valley Player of the Year Award in both 2023 and 2024. He played only eight games for climbers this season, before remembering the rest of the campaign with an upper body injury. The school is expected to apply for a medical redsirt, which will provide him with another year eligibility – potentially in Indiana.
