Officials said at least a dozen people died when an aircraft crashed from the Caribbean coast of Honduras on Monday evening.
According to the country’s Civil Aeronautics Agency, the plane crashed after flying from the Juan Manual Galvez Airport on Rotan Island. Its destination was the island near La Seba.
Honduran President Zimara Castro said the debris was found to be less than a mile from the coast of Rotan Island.
According to the Aeronautics Agency, two crew members and 15 passengers were in small aircraft, one Jetstream 32, a jetstream 32 operated by Honduran Airline Lenhasa.

The Honduras government activated several emergency services including armed forces, firefighters and police.
The government said in a post on Monday, “The Honduras government regrets the tragic accident in Rotan.”
The armed forces also said in a post on X that “the rapid response teams continue to work in the area to protect the lives of the affected people.”

The dramatic video of the incident shows emergency employees operating attempts to prevent the sea.
Rotan Fire Captain Franklin Borzas said Reuters were taken to a nearby hospital, but said adverse conditions complicated search and rescue efforts on Monday.
Borzas said on Monday night, “It has become difficult to reach the accident (site), as the rocks have 30 meters (98 feet), and you cannot reach there while walking or swimming.” “There is zero visibility in divers that help in rescue.”
The firefighters said that efforts to find the only missing passenger would continue on Tuesday when the weather and visibility conditions are expected to improve.
