The lawsuit reminds us of a famous 1994 trial against McDonald’s in which a woman released hot coffee on her lap and faced a third degree burning.

The lawsuit accused Starbucks of breaking his duty of care by failing to secure LID. (AFP Photo)

In California on Friday, a jury ordered Starbucks to pay a delivery driver to pay $ 50 million to damage, which was severely burnt by a safe lid on warm beverages.

Michael Garcia was picking up drinks at a drive-through at Los Angeles, when he suffered “severe burns, disintegrations, and nerve damage to his genitals, when the hot drinks finally slipped into their lap according to the trial filed in the California Superior Court in 2020.

Michael Parker, Garcia’s lawyer said that his client was picking up three beverages and one of the hot drinks was completely pushed into the container. Parker said that when Barista ordered Garcia, a drink was out of the container and on Garcia, Parker said.

The loss of Garcia included physical pain, mental pain, loss of life, humiliation, discomfort, discomfort, grief, disintegration, physical harm, anxiety and emotional crisis, which were according to a recording of the verdict from the courtroom view network.

Starbucks said it plans to appeal to the decision.

The company spokesperson said in a statement, “We are sympathetic with Mr. Garcia, but we disagree with the decision of the jury that we were making mistakes for the incident and believe that the compensation was given to be excessive.”

The lawsuit is reminiscent of a famous 1994 case against McDonald’s in which a woman took off a hot coffee on her lap and faced a third degree burning. In that case, Stella Libek was originally awarded approximately $ 3 million.
