Translation default is widely available, while navigation is limited to the European Union
Apple has offered some forms of default app control in the Settings app over the years. But recently in iOS 18.2, this feature expanded with new categories and a dedicated hub.
Now in iOS 18.4, category options are growing again.
Translation There is a new category available in the US and abroad, allowing you to change default in third-party options such as Google translation from Apple’s translation app.

It is a shame that navigation is banned for European Union users, but if you live in the European Union you will be able to convert your iPhone default from Apple Maps to other options, such as Google Maps.
The default app categories all work differently, but generally speaking, your default app will be used by link and built-in OS tool, which you face system-wide to do a certain function .
For example, if you convert your navigation default into waze, tapping a address that sends your friend to an IMESSAGE, should open that place directly in your favorite app.
The default application can be configured on your iPhone by opening Settings ⇾ Apps of Default Apps.
